Rufous-bellied Helmetshrike

Prionops rufiventris

The Rufous-bellied Helmetshrike is a small, social bird found in the woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. It is easily recognized by its striking black and white plumage, with a rufous belly and distinctive hooked bill. These birds are often found in family groups, foraging for insects and small fruits. They build cup-shaped nests in trees and are known for their melodious calls. The Rufous-bellied Helmetshrike plays an important role in its ecosystem by controlling insect populations. However, habitat loss and fragmentation pose significant threats to its populations.
