Rufous-breasted Antthrush

Formicarius rufipectus

The Rufous-breasted Antthrush is a medium-sized bird found in the understory of humid lowland and montane forests in South America. It has a distinctive rufous-colored breast and belly, with a dark brown back and wings. This species is known for its secretive behavior, often remaining hidden in dense vegetation and foraging on the forest floor for insects and small invertebrates. Its haunting song can be heard in the early morning and late evening, adding to the mystique of the forest. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Rufous-breasted Antthrush faces conservation concerns in some parts of its range.
