The Rufous-capped Motmot is a striking bird found in the forests of South America. It is known for its distinctive rufous-colored cap and long, racket-tipped tail. This species is known for its unique behavior of perching still for long periods, then suddenly darting out to catch insects or small reptiles. It prefers dense, humid forests with a variety of fruit-bearing trees and shrubs. The Rufous-capped Motmot is a cavity nester, often utilizing abandoned burrows or hollows in trees. It is a medium-sized bird with a length of about 32-36 cm and a weight of 65-75 grams. The conservation status of the Rufous-capped Motmot is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
