Erythrogenys erythrocnemis
The Rufous-cheeked Laughingthrush (Erythrogenys erythrocnemis) is a medium-sized bird found in the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia. It is known for its striking appearance, with a rufous crown, black mask, and bright rufous cheeks. The upperparts are olive-brown, and the underparts are a contrasting gray. This species is often found in dense undergrowth and bamboo thickets, where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. The Rufous-cheeked Laughingthrush is known for its melodious and varied calls, often heard in the early morning and late afternoon. While not currently classified by the IUCN, its population is believed to be declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
