Rufous-cheeked Nightjar

Caprimulgus rufigena

The Rufous-cheeked Nightjar (Caprimulgus rufigena) is a medium-sized nightjar found in the forests and woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its cryptic plumage, with intricate patterns that provide excellent camouflage against the bark of trees. This species is primarily crepuscular and nocturnal, emerging at dusk to forage for insects in flight. Its distinctive call, a series of soft, repetitive notes, can often be heard echoing through the forest at night. The Rufous-cheeked Nightjar is a master of aerial acrobatics, using its agile flight to capture prey in mid-air. Despite its widespread distribution, this species faces threats from habitat loss and degradation.
