Rufous-chested Flycatcher

Aethomyias rufescens

The Rufous-chested Flycatcher is a small passerine bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It is known for its distinctive rufous chest and belly, contrasting with the greyish head and olive-green upperparts. This flycatcher is often observed perching in the mid-canopy, sallying out to catch insects in flight. It has a melodious and varied song that can be heard throughout its forest habitat. The Rufous-chested Flycatcher is a migratory species, breeding in the mountains and wintering in lower elevations. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential future threats to its populations.
