Rufous-chested Waterhen

Enicurus ruficapillus

The Rufous-chested Waterhen is a medium-sized bird found in the wetlands and marshy areas of Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its striking rufous chest and black upperparts, with a long red bill and yellow legs. This species is known for its loud and distinctive calls, often heard during the breeding season. Rufous-chested Waterhens are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, small fish, and plant matter. They are often observed foraging along the water's edge, using their long toes to walk on floating vegetation. Despite being relatively common in suitable habitats, the species faces threats from habitat loss and degradation.
