Rufous-crowned Elaenia

Elaenia ruficeps

The Rufous-crowned Elaenia is a small passerine bird found in South America. It is characterized by its olive-green upperparts, yellowish underparts, and a distinctive rufous crown. This species is often found in open woodlands, forest edges, and shrubby areas, where it forages for insects and occasionally feeds on berries and small fruits. The Rufous-crowned Elaenia is known for its melodious, whistled song and can be observed perching in the open or making short flights to catch prey. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation may pose future conservation challenges for this species.
