Rufous-crowned Sparrow

Aimophila ruficeps

The Rufous-crowned Sparrow is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is characterized by its rufous crown and grayish-brown plumage with streaks on the back. This species is often found in arid scrublands, chaparral, and open woodlands, where it forages for seeds and insects on the ground. The Rufous-crowned Sparrow is known for its distinctive song, a series of clear whistles and trills. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to its populations.
