Strix rufipes

The Rufous-legged Owl (Strix rufipes) is a medium-sized owl found in parts of South America. It has a distinctive rufous coloration on its legs and a mottled brown and white plumage. This owl is known for its haunting hooting call that echoes through the forests it inhabits. The Rufous-legged Owl is a nocturnal hunter, preying on small mammals, birds, and insects. It nests in tree cavities and is known for its fierce defense of its territory. This species is not well-studied and much of its behavior and ecology remain unknown.
