Rufous Mourner

Rhytipterna holerythra

The Rufous Mourner (Rhytipterna holerythra) is a small passerine bird found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. It is known for its distinctive rufous plumage and melodious, flute-like song. This species is often found in the midstory and understory of dense, humid forests, where it forages for insects and small fruits. The Rufous Mourner is a secretive bird, often remaining hidden within the foliage, and is best observed and identified by its vocalizations. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss due to deforestation poses a potential risk to its population.
