Rufous-necked hornbill

Aceros nipalensis

The Rufous-necked hornbill is a large bird found in the forests of the Eastern Himalayas and Southeast Asia. It is known for its striking appearance, with a black body, white tail, and a rufous-colored neck. These hornbills play a crucial role in forest ecosystems as seed dispersers, helping to maintain the diversity of plant species. They are often seen flying high in the canopy, emitting loud calls that echo through the forest. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the Rufous-necked hornbill faces conservation challenges and is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
