The Rufous-necked Nightjar is a medium-sized nocturnal bird found in open woodland and scrub habitats across southern Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East. This species is known for its cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage during the day. The Rufous-necked Nightjar is primarily insectivorous, using its wide gape and long, bristle-fringed bill to catch flying insects in mid-air. It is known for its distinctive churring call, which is often heard during the breeding season. This species is generally well-adapted to its environment and faces no major conservation threats at present.
