Rufous Owl

Ninox affinis

The Rufous Owl (Ninox affinis) is a medium-sized owl found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia and the islands of the South Pacific. It has a distinctive rufous-brown plumage with intricate patterns of darker streaks and spots, and large, dark eyes. This nocturnal bird of prey feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects, using its sharp talons and keen eyesight to hunt in the darkness. The Rufous Owl is known for its haunting hoots and calls, which are often heard echoing through the forest at night. It is a secretive and elusive bird, often roosting in dense foliage during the day.
