Rufous Piha

Lipaugus unirufus

The Rufous Piha (Lipaugus unirufus) is a medium-sized passerine bird found in the humid forests of South America. It is known for its distinctive call, a series of clear whistles that echo through the forest. The Rufous Piha has a robust build with a rufous-colored plumage and a black mask around its eyes. It forages for fruits and insects in the mid to upper levels of the forest canopy. This species plays an important role in seed dispersal and maintaining the ecological balance of its habitat. However, like many forest-dwelling species, the Rufous Piha faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
