Rufous Scrub-bird

Atrichornis rufescens

The Rufous Scrub-bird (Atrichornis rufescens) is a small, secretive bird endemic to the dense undergrowth of the wet sclerophyll forests and rainforests of eastern Australia. With a distinctive loud, ringing call, the Rufous Scrub-bird is known for its remarkable skulking behavior, making it a challenging species to observe. It has a rich rufous plumage with intricate patterns, providing excellent camouflage amidst the leaf litter and dense vegetation. This species is primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor for invertebrates. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Rufous Scrub-bird faces conservation concerns.
