Premnoplex brunnescens
The Rufous Spinetail (Premnoplex brunnescens) is a small, secretive bird found in the Andean cloud forests of South America. It has a rufous-brown plumage with a distinctive long tail and a slightly curved bill. This species is known for its skulking behavior, often remaining hidden in dense vegetation and only occasionally seen darting between trees. Rufous Spinetails primarily forage for insects and small invertebrates in the understorey of montane forests. They are known for their high-pitched, insect-like calls that can be heard echoing through the misty cloud forests. Despite their elusive nature, they are an important component of the biodiversity in their habitat.
