Rufous-tailed Antthrush

Chamaeza ruficauda

The Rufous-tailed Antthrush is a small, secretive bird found in the understory of humid forests in South America. It is known for its distinctive rufous tail and cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage among the leaf litter. This species forages on the forest floor, using its long legs to hop and its bill to probe for insects and invertebrates. Its haunting, flute-like song can often be heard echoing through the forest understory. The Rufous-tailed Antthrush is a vital component of its ecosystem, contributing to seed dispersal and insect population control.
