The Rufous-tailed Jacamar is a striking bird found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. It has a distinctive long bill, vibrant green upperparts, and a rufous-colored tail. This species is known for its aerial foraging behavior, where it hovers and darts to catch insects. It prefers to inhabit the understory of mature forests, often near water bodies. The Rufous-tailed Jacamar is a solitary bird and is usually seen perched on a high vantage point, waiting to sally out to catch its prey. Its call is a distinctive high-pitched trill. This species is not currently considered to be at risk of extinction.
