Rufous-throated Sapphire, Hylocharis sapphirina, is a hummingbird of South America, breeding in Amazonia, south-eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina. It was first described by Gmelin in 1788. The male gives the bird its English name through its rufous chin, while the female shows a paler version of the same feature. It is placed in the family Trochilidae and the order Apodiformes. Its range also includes other parts of northern South America, and it occurs in semi-open and open country, including forest edges, savanna, clearings, coffee plantations and, rarely, open coastal vegetation.
