Petrochelidon rufocollaris
The Rufous-throated Swallow is a small passerine bird found in South America. It has a distinctive rufous throat and upper breast, contrasting with a white belly. The upperparts are glossy blue-black, and the tail is deeply forked. These swallows are often found in open areas near water, where they feed on flying insects. They are known for their graceful and agile flight, often seen swooping and gliding as they hunt for prey. Rufous-throated Swallows typically nest in colonies, constructing cup-shaped mud nests under overhangs or in crevices. Their populations are currently stable, but they may face threats from habitat loss and pollution.
