Rufous-vented Chachalaca

Ortalis superciliaris

The Rufous-vented Chachalaca is a medium-sized bird found in Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive call, a series of loud, raucous notes that can be heard throughout its forested habitat. These birds are primarily herbivorous, feeding on fruits, seeds, and leaves. They are often found in small groups, foraging on the forest floor or perching in the canopy. The Rufous-vented Chachalaca plays an important role in seed dispersal within its ecosystem. Despite being hunted for food in some areas, their populations are currently stable.
