Rufous-vented Tapaculo

Chamaeza turdina

The Rufous-vented Tapaculo is a small, secretive bird found in the Andes of South America. It has a brownish-gray plumage with a rufous vent and tail, and a distinctive white throat patch. This species is known for its loud, complex song that it delivers from the undergrowth of dense montane forests. Rufous-vented Tapaculos forage on the forest floor, feeding on insects and small invertebrates. They are typically encountered singly or in pairs, and are often difficult to observe due to their skulking behavior. Despite their elusive nature, their vocalizations make them detectable in their preferred habitats.
