Micropternus brachyurus
The Rufous Woodpecker (Micropternus brachyurus) is a medium-sized woodpecker found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive rufous and black plumage with white spots on the wings. This species is known for its drumming sound, which it produces by pecking on trees to communicate with other woodpeckers and establish territory. The Rufous Woodpecker primarily feeds on insects and grubs found in the bark of trees. It prefers mature forests and wooded areas with ample tree cover for foraging and nesting. Although adaptable to some human-modified landscapes, habitat loss and degradation pose threats to its populations.
