Dendroma rufa
The Rufous woodpecker (Dendrocopos rufa) is a medium-sized woodpecker found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive rufous plumage with black and white markings on its wings and back. This species is known for its drumming sound, which it creates by pecking on trees to communicate with other woodpeckers and establish territories. Rufous woodpeckers primarily feed on insects and larvae found under the bark of trees. They are often observed foraging on tree trunks and branches, using their strong bills to extract prey. These woodpeckers are adaptable and can be found in a variety of forest habitats, including primary and secondary forests, as well as wooded areas near human settlements.
