Rüppell's Korhaan

Heterotetrax rueppelii (Wahlberg, 1856)

Rüppell's Korhaan, Heterotetrax rueppelii, is a bustard of southwestern Africa, recorded from Angola and Namibia. It belongs to the family Otididae and was described by (Wahlberg, 1856). It lives in places with little rain, including deserts, plains and savannahs, and is found in the western part of Namibia as well as sites such as Namibrand Nature Reserve, Mirabib, Ganab in Namib-Naukluft Park, Bloedkoppie and the Spitzkoppe surroundings. It is a small bustard, and its head and neck are grey with black striping, white cheeks, sandy brown upperparts and white underparts.
