Rüppell's Vulture, Gyps rueppelli, is a resident bird of prey found across eastern, central and western Africa, especially in the Sahel and East Africa. It is a large vulture and is known for reaching extreme heights in flight, with one confirmed record at 11,300 m. The species takes its name from Eduard Rüppell. Its numbers have fallen because of habitat loss, accidental poisoning and other pressures, and it is listed as Critically Endangered.
