Russet Antshrike, Thamnistes anabatinus, is a passerine of the antbird family found from south-east Mexico through Middle America and into northern South America, reaching Peru in the breeding range given here. It was named by Sclater and Salvin in 1860. The bird is a stocky antshrike with a heavy hooked bill, and the sexes are very similar. It is placed in evergreen forest and adjacent secondary growth, and in northern Central America also in semideciduous forest, usually in the subcanopy and canopy. Its range includes Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru.
