Russet-backed Oropendola

Psarocolius angustifrons

The Russet-backed Oropendola is a striking bird found in the forests of South America. It is known for its distinctive vocalizations and large, pendulous nests. This species has a glossy black plumage with a bright rufous back and tail, and a pale blue eye. The male has a characteristic long, pointed tail and a bright yellow wattle. Russet-backed Oropendolas are highly social and often form large, noisy colonies. They feed on fruits and insects and play a vital role in seed dispersal within their habitat.
