Russet Sparrow, Passer cinnamomeus, breeds across temperate to subtropical woodland and settlements in the Himalayas, eastern Asia, the Korean Peninsula and Taiwan, reaching from north-east Afghanistan and Tibet to Japan and the southern Kurils. It is a sparrow of the family Passeridae and is closely tied to human habitations where other sparrows are absent. In the south of its range it is found higher up, while farther north it breeds near the coast. It also occurs in light woodland and around terrace cultivation, and its range extends through China, Myanmar and neighbouring regions.
