Rustic Bunting

Emberiza rustica Pallas, 1776

Rustic Bunting, Emberiza rustica, is a passerine in the bunting family Emberizidae. It breeds in the Palearctic, from Scandinavia across Russia to south Chukotka and Kamchatka, with its range also reaching the southern Altai and northern Sakhalin. In the non-breeding season it is found in eastern China, on the Korean Peninsula and in Japan from Honshu to the Ryukyu Islands. First described by Pallas in 1776, it nests in wet coniferous woodland and places four to six eggs in a nest set in a bush or on the ground.
