Rusty-barred Owl, Strix hylophila, is an owl of south-eastern Brazil, south-eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina. It was described by Temminck in 1825 and belongs to the family Strigidae. Its range covers the interior and margins of wooded country, including montane, tropical evergreen and temperate forest, as well as secondary growth and pine plantations, and it can also occur near people. It is a resident bird. The species is recognised by its rusty-brown facial disc with darker rings and small white brows, and by the barred pattern on the upperparts and underparts.
