Rusty-crowned Ground Sparrow

The Rusty-crowned Ground Sparrow (Peucaea sumichrasti) is a small, secretive bird found in Mexico and Central America. It is characterized by its rusty crown, grayish-brown upperparts, and pale underparts with streaks. This species is typically found in dense undergrowth of tropical and subtropical forests, as well as in scrubby areas and coffee plantations. The Rusty-crowned Ground Sparrow forages on the ground for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. It is known for its shy behavior and often remains hidden within the vegetation. The conservation status of this species is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
