Rusty-crowned Ground Sparrow, Melozone kieneri, is a passerine of the New World sparrow family that breeds in Mexico. It is confined to western and central parts of the country, where it occurs in the Sierra Madre Occidental, Sierra Madre del Sur and the Cordillera Neovolcanica. Its range includes arid and semi-humid country in upper tropical and subtropical zones, such as thorn forest, dry scrub, brushy woodland and secondary forest. It is a year-round resident. The species was first described in 1850 by Bonaparte.
