Ryukyu Minivet

Pericrocotus tegimae

The Ryukyu Minivet (Pericrocotus tegimae) is a small passerine bird found in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. It has a distinctive black head, grey upperparts, and bright yellow underparts, making it easily recognizable. This species is known for its agile and acrobatic flight patterns as it forages for small insects in the forest canopy. The Ryukyu Minivet is often found in subtropical broadleaf forests and wooded areas, where it builds its cup-shaped nest in the dense foliage. Although not much is known about its population trends, it is believed to be relatively common within its limited range.
