Sabine's gull

Xema sabini

Sabine's gull (Xema sabini) is a small, graceful seabird with a distinctive black hood, red bill, and long, slender wings. During the breeding season, they can be found in the high Arctic, nesting on rocky cliffs and scree slopes. They are highly migratory, spending the non-breeding season at sea in the open ocean. Sabine's gulls are agile flyers and skilled at foraging for fish and invertebrates. They are known for their striking aerial displays and acrobatic flight patterns. Despite their small size, they are resilient and well-adapted to life in the harsh Arctic environment.
