Salvin's curassow

Mitu salvini

Salvin's curassow is a large, ground-dwelling bird found in the humid forests of Central and South America. This species is known for its striking appearance, with glossy black plumage, a distinctive curly crest, and bright yellow beak and legs. They are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, seeds, and insects found on the forest floor. Salvin's curassows are generally shy and elusive, making them difficult to spot in the wild. Unfortunately, habitat loss and hunting pressure have led to population declines, and they are now considered vulnerable to extinction.
