Salvin's Curassow

Tumbezia salvini

Salvin's Curassow is a large, striking bird found in the humid forests of Central and South America. It is known for its glossy black plumage with iridescent blue and green highlights, as well as a distinctive red knob on the male's bill. These birds are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and occasionally insects. They are known for their low, booming calls that echo through the forest. Unfortunately, habitat loss and hunting have led to population declines, making them vulnerable to extinction.
