Samar Hornbill, Penelopides samarensis, is a hornbill of the east Visayas in the Philippines, where it lives in forest on Samar, Calicoan, Leyte and Bohol. It was described by Steere in 1890 and belongs to the Bucerotidae. It is a lowland and foothill forest bird, with most records from below 750 metres. It is small for a hornbill and has a fairly short bill with black bands, bare skin around the eyes and chin, and a male and female that differ strongly in plumage. It is also known for a short honk given in quick succession.
