Samoan Flycatcher

Myiagra erythrops

The Samoan Flycatcher (Myiagra erythrops) is a small passerine bird native to the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific. It is characterized by its striking black and white plumage, with a distinctive red eye-ring and reddish-brown upperparts. This species is known for its agile and acrobatic flight as it hunts for insects in the forest canopy. The Samoan Flycatcher is often found in mature tropical forests and wooded areas, where it forages for small insects and invertebrates. Despite its small size, this bird plays a significant role in the ecosystem as an insect predator. Due to habitat loss and predation by invasive species, the conservation status of the Samoan Flycatcher is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
