Samoan kingfisher

Todiramphus saurophagus

The Samoan kingfisher (Todiramphus saurophagus) is a small, colorful bird native to the islands of American Samoa. With a length of about 16 centimeters, it has a striking blue and white plumage, a large head, and a strong, pointed bill. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of rapid, high-pitched chirps. The Samoan kingfisher primarily inhabits tropical forests and coastal areas, where it preys on small insects, lizards, and occasionally small fish. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and invasive species, the Samoan kingfisher is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN.
