Chordeiles rupestris
The Sand-colored Nighthawk is a medium-sized nocturnal bird found in the arid regions of South America. It has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage against the sandy and rocky habitats it frequents. This species is characterized by its long pointed wings, short legs, and a distinctive call that is often heard during its crepuscular and nocturnal flights. Sand-colored Nighthawks are insectivorous and are known for their agile aerial foraging, capturing insects on the wing. Although not globally threatened, habitat loss and disturbance from human activities pose potential threats to their populations.
