Sandhill Grasswren

Amytornis oweni Mathews, 1911

Sandhill Grasswren, Amytornis oweni, is a passerine of the Maluridae family that lives in sandplain deserts and mallee across western and southern Australia, from central Western Australia through central Northern Territory to north-western and southern South Australia. It was first described in 1911 by Mathews. The species is recognised as separate from the Pilbara Grasswren, after once being treated as the same bird. Two subspecies are accepted, one in the broader inland range and another on the mallee sand plain of the west Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.
