Sanford's White-eye

Zosterops lacertosus (Murphy & Mathews, 1929)

Sanford's White-eye, Zosterops lacertosus, is a bird of Nendo in the Santa Cruz Islands of Temotu, Solomon Islands, within the white-eye family. It is the only form in its species and was described by Murphy and Mathews in 1929. Its range is limited to that island. The bird is best known for the narrow white ring around each eye. It is found in degraded forest, primary forest, forest edges and secondary growth, especially where cover is dense. It breeds in tall trees and lays 2-4 unspotted blue eggs.
