Sanguine Toucan

Pteroglossus sanguineus

Sanguine Toucan, Pteroglossus sanguineus, is a toucan of southern Panama, northern Colombia, north-western Ecuador and north-western Peru. It lives in evergreen primary forest, mature secondary forest, and also in coffee, cacao and fruit plantations. The form sanguineus has at times been treated as a separate species. It is one of two recognised subspecies within the broader taxon. Its range extends from eastern Panama and northern Colombia into north-western Ecuador, with the other subspecies occurring farther south and west.
