Sao Tome Bronze-naped Pigeon

The Sao Tome Bronze-naped Pigeon (Columba junoniae) is a medium-sized pigeon species endemic to the island of São Tomé in the Gulf of Guinea. It is characterized by its bronze-colored nape and iridescent green and purple plumage on the neck and breast. These pigeons inhabit the dense primary and secondary forests of São Tomé, where they forage for fruits, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are often observed in pairs or small flocks, and their distinctive cooing calls can be heard echoing through the forest. The conservation status of the Sao Tome Bronze-naped Pigeon is currently classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN due to habitat loss and hunting pressure.
