Hylocharis sapphirina
The Sapphire-spangled Emerald is a striking hummingbird species found in South America, particularly in Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. It is known for its vibrant green plumage with shimmering sapphire-blue spots on the throat and chest. These small birds are often found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, as well as in shrubland and heavily degraded former forest. They are highly active and agile, feeding on nectar from various flowers and sometimes catching small insects. The species is known for its distinctive high-pitched vocalizations during courtship displays.
