Chlorestes cyanus
The Sapphire-spangled Emerald is a small hummingbird species found in South America. It is known for its vibrant iridescent plumage, with males displaying a brilliant blue crown and throat. These birds are often found in montane forests and woodland edges, where they feed on nectar from a variety of flowering plants. They are agile fliers, capable of hovering in front of flowers while feeding. The species is known for its distinctive high-pitched vocalizations during courtship displays. Although not currently classified by the IUCN, the population trend is believed to be stable.
