Sappho sparganurus, commonly known as the Red-tailed Comet, is a species of hummingbird found in South America. It is named for its striking red tail feathers, which contrast with its iridescent green and blue plumage. This medium-sized hummingbird is known for its agile flight and its preference for feeding on nectar from tubular flowers. The Red-tailed Comet is often found in montane forests and shrubby areas, where it can be seen darting among the foliage in search of food. While not currently classified by the IUCN, this species may face threats from habitat loss and climate change.
