The Sarus Crane (Antigone rubicunda) is the tallest flying bird in the world, standing at a height of up to 6 feet. It is easily recognized by its predominantly grey plumage, contrasting with a bright red head and upper neck. These elegant birds are known for their loud trumpeting calls and elaborate courtship displays. Sarus Cranes are found in wetlands, marshes, and agricultural fields across the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia. They are known for their strong pair bonds and are often seen in family groups. Despite their once widespread distribution, the Sarus Crane is now threatened by habitat loss and degradation, and is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
