Aerodramus vanikorensis
The Satin Swiftlet is a small, insectivorous bird found in the islands of the southwest Pacific. It is known for its glossy black plumage and distinctive forked tail. These swiftlets are highly aerial, spending most of their lives in flight, only landing to roost and nest. They are often found in coastal areas and feed on flying insects caught in mid-air. Their nests are built using saliva and are collected for the production of bird's nest soup. Satin Swiftlets are important to the ecosystem as they help control insect populations and are indicators of healthy coastal habitats.
